This 2021 study carried out by 10Tooba for Habitat for Humanity Egypt undertakes an in-depth examination of affordability’s different dimensions, and assesses affordability of housing in Egypt’s urban areas and rural areas.
According to the study, Egypt is the world’s leading per capita producer of housing, and third overall, after China and India, building an estimated 1.3 million units a year. Despite the high volume of housing production, it has been estimated that around half of Egypt’s 100 million residents are not able to afford a median priced home, while around one third are not able to find adequate housing due to a lack of improved sanitation, safe drinking water, or structural integrity or because of overcrowding.
